CMPOA Firewise Community Workday
A Firewise workday event is planned for the mountain and lots of volunteers are needed to make this day a success! Our goal is to reduce the risk/damage of wildfire by removing fuel in our community.
You may sign up for two different 2-hour work slots at the Summit Haus, or with Lewis in the office or call and leave him a message (276-728-0679), clearly stating your name, preferred time slot(s), and contact number. We hope to have enough volunteers to have more than one crew per time slot. (A crew cutting, gathering and stacking; a crew picking up piles that are difficult for the chipper to access; and a crew feeding the chipper.). Volunteers are asked to bring their own work gloves and not to wear loose clothes.
You may start anytime by cleaning up brush, pruning and picking up limbs around your property (and/or helping a neighbor with their property) and hauling it to the burn pile below the dam, but we ask that it not be stacked by the street until mid-September. Please see our Firewise Webpage for proper placement. We will work on the roadways, common areas and facilities on the actual workday.
There is a job for everyone. We need: a few experienced people to handle some power equipment, people to feed the chipper, bring debris to the chipper, rake up after the pile has been chipped, transport debris from remote sites to the chipper, flag traffic, or help with other cleanup projects.
